Job Summary:
Independence American Insurance Company (IAIC) is looking for a hybrid Senior Accountant who could work with and analyze large premium and claims data, book journal entries, have a strong understanding of GAAP and STAT, and is willing to take on the responsibilities listed below.
Job Location: New York, NY - Hybrid
Main Responsibilities:
Assistance with some Statutory Quarterly, Annual statement preparation, including but not limited to the Supplemental Accident and Health exhibits, Schedule F/S, Schedule H, Schedule P, Schedule F. Senior Accountant will need to work with others to ensure he/she is getting all necessary detailed data to complete the assigned components of the statement.
Assists with external and regulatory reviews, audits, and examinations, as needed.
Assist in various projects, analysis, and similar job-related duties as needed and perform all other job functions necessary for the proper management of the department.
Assistance with the completion of state filings and forms.
Responsible for a wide array of routine to complex corporate accounting reporting and analysis.
Review/Prepares journal entries in accordance with STAT and GAAP principles.
Assists with preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual GAAP and/or STAT reporting and closing processes.
Prepare financial statement to work paper support reconciliations.
Prepares and analyzes financial data to ensure accuracy and provides commentary on financial results to improve decision making and financial performance based upon qualitative and quantitative trends.
Prepares and substantiates reconciliation for bank accounts, claim funds, funds held, and other balance sheet and expense accounts as needed.
Performs all other job functions necessary for the proper management of the department.
Mentor and support staff by providing guidance, reviewing work, and fostering professional development.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelorβs degree in accounting or finance or related field required.
A minimum of 2-3 years of accounting experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, strong Excel skills and experience with general ledger software.
Analyzes and solves problems.
Self-motivated, disciplined, organized, and enthusiastic.
Demonstrates commitment to teamwork.
